The lonely tree

says my photographic tutor, “so set your camera on the grown-up settings!” I have just completed a four-week photographic course called ‘Understanding your Digital SLR camera’ and am very excited about it. I hate reading manuals and this course dealt with all the technical aspects of a camera from exposure to aperture to shutter speed to depth of field and a myriad other functions. Photography was one of my subjects at university but we focused on mood, composition and interpretations as well as printing our own black and white images. I have never been fully conversant with the technical side of a camera and certainly not a digital one. I have set myself an Easter holiday challenge – 10 technical projects – and will try a new aspect each day.
